We are currently enjoying a golden age of fighting games. The latest in long-running series like Street Fighter, Tekken, and Guilty Gear are fantastic. Both newer (Dragon Ball FighterZ) and older games (Street Fighter 3rd Strike, Guilty Gear +R) are getting updates that add rollback netcode, enabling fans to enjoy the best player-to-player connections possible. And many new games are also being ported to nearly every platform, so it’s easier than ever to play what you want, with who you want, when you want.

Some games have long been neglected and rendered unplayable on modern hardware, causing members of the fighting game community to call for developers to re-release or update them to be more accessible. Streamer Maximilian Dood’s #FreeMVC2 movement is perhaps the most notable of these and, thankfully, this particular situation is about to be rectified. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: New Age Of Heroes is coming back, ensuring the granddaddy of tag fighters will find a place in the hearts of brand-new fighting game players, not just the old heads.

It’s not a big surprise, but a lot of children want video games for the holidays. The Entertainment Software Association, which represents the US video game industry’s interests in Washington D.C., has released the results of a study that says kids aged 10-17 overwhelmingly want video games for Christmas and the holiday season in general.

A survey found that 76% of kids plan to ask their parents or caregiver for video games, outpacing money (67%), clothes (66%), and general tech items like phones and smartwatches (62%).

Both girls (67%) and boys (87%) said they planned to ask for video games this holiday season. Breaking things down further, the top five game-related items that children want are consoles (47%), subscription services (43%), console games (41%), game gear (41%), and in-game currency (38%).

The survey also looked into the spending predictions for US adults and found that those who are planning to buy video game gifts said they planned to spend $312 on average for themselves or others.

The Financial Times reported this week about what is expected to be a challenging holiday shopping season for video game hardware. The publication cited Garet…

Save for that blissful half-hour of Silksong that I played back in E3 2019, Constance is, so far, the best Hollow Knight-like game I’ve ever played. It’s not exactly the same–Constance takes a page out of Splatoon’s book and features a main character that can wield dangerous purple paint and submerge into puddles in order to slink past enemies or obstacles or ascend up walls–but I couldn’t help but be reminded of my time spend in Hallownest. My time with the game was unfortunately quite short–I played a 20-minute Gamescom demo–but I adored what I saw of its quirky world and enjoyed how much the various designs of the robotic enemies and assortment of paint-based abilities shook up each combat encounter. Just as Hollow Knight’s gameplay emulates the acrobatic dance and frenzied movements of insects, combat in Constance feels like the frenetic flourishes and flicks of a paintbrush as an artist enters the flow state.

Constance’s story seems quite interesting but I’m reserving judgment until I see more of it–20 minutes just isn’t enough time to get a grasp of the action-adventure game’s narrative. In the game, you play as the titular heroine and explore a non-li…

Not long after Mass Effect veteran Casey Hudson’s new AAA studio closed its doors, another BioWare veteran’s new venture has announced it is pausing operations.

Mac Walters, who worked at BioWare for nearly 20 years, split off in 2023 to make his own studio, Worlds Untold. However, Walters delivered some difficult news this week when he confirmed a decision to “pause operations at Worlds End” as the studio seeks out a “new partner” for its next game.

The phrasing here suggests something might have happened with NetEase, the partner that Worlds Untold was previously working with. In fact, NetEase was announced as the financial backer of Worlds Untold. Walters had previously said NetEase was the right partner because the team shared its vision and passion, and that it had the creative freedom and funding levels necessary to deliver.

“This was not a decision we made lightly–it’s been a deeply personal journey, and we’re all so proud of everything this team has built together. In the meantime, our incredible team members will be exploring new opportunities,” Walters said Come from Sports bett…

EA Sports College Football 25 is easily one of 2024’s most anticipated games, and at long last, EA has begun to lift the veil that was hanging over the game, presumed to hit stores in just a few months. The College Football 25 cover stars are here; yes, there are multiple. Come from Sports betting site VPbet

Co-starring in the official artwork for the game’s reboot (of a sort) are Michigan running back Donovan Edwards, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, and Colorado wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter. The trio is likely meant to serve as a big, bright reminder that College Football 25 features real player names and likenesses for the first time in EA’s history with the sport (known previously as the NCAA Football series).

Alongside the cover reveal came a few other details surrounding the game. College Football 25 preorders are now available, with Standard and Deluxe editions available, though an even bigger bundle also exists for football diehards: the EA Sports MVP Bundle, which groups together the Deluxe editions of both College Football 25 and Madden NFL 25 (yes, that’s its name) f…

GameSpot’s Double Exposure review scored the game a 6/10. The game is the latest in the main series and was released in October 2024 from developer Deck Nine.

Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm has laid off its mobile team. While it’s unclear how many employees were affected, the number is reportedly more than 50.

Several now-former employees posted on LinkedIn about being laid off from NetherRealm. A quality assurance analyst said, “Unfortunately, NetherRealms mobile team was shut down. A ton of very talented people were put out of work. We had live services on multiple titles such as Mortal Kombat Mobile, Injustice 2, and Mortal Kombat Onslaught.”

An animator also said, “It hurts me to announce I’ve been laid off from NetherRealm Studios after about 10 years of working there.” GameSpot has reached out to WB Games for comment. Come from Sports betting site VPbet

Over the past few years, many video game studios have conducted mass layoffs, all the way from the biggest developers like Ubisoft to smaller ones like Tales of Kenzera: Zau developer Surgent Studios.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 hasn’t even been out a month yet, and it’s already smashing engagement records. But if you need to get an edge in progression, veteran Call of Duty fans got some good news, and later some bad news. The double XP tokens from last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3–as well as the tokens from Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone–were carried over to Black Ops 6 as part of the Season 1 update that went live this week. However, they have already disappeared.

Double XP tokens can be equipped by players to help them quickly increase their experience as well as unlock weapons and equipment. The tokens are available to use in Black Ops 6’s multiplayer and Zombies modes. Because the game hasn’t been out for very long, there’s only been a single Double XP weekend to date, but there will likely be more in the future.

After showing up in players’ accounts on November 14, the tokens had vanished again by the next day. However, it’s been reported that you can activate the tokens in Warzone and then still reap the benefits upon playing Black Ops 6 within the time limit.

Black Ops 6 Season 1 has given players the chance to buy Gobblegums with real money. …
