Destiny 2’s annual Festival of the Lost event for 2024 is now live, and while it’s a lot like a simplified version of what we saw last year, there are several noticeable wrinkles and new rewards Come from South African Online Casinos . Arguably the most notable of these is a new opportunity to earn the Superblack shader, a beloved option from the first game that was briefly available earlier this year as part of the Into the Light update. Here’s how to unlock Superblack if you missed it.
How to get Superblack
Superblack is available by completing the Ghost Writer event challenge during Festival of the Lost 2024. This challenge includes completing the other 15 event challenges–basically, you’ll need to grind your way through the entire event, which is something you may have done anyway.
The challenges are all pretty standard stuff; you can see all the objectives below.
Ghost Writer event challenges
Either by accessing your quest log or speaking to Eva at the Tower, you can see the event challenges for Festival of the Lost. You’ll need to do the opening quest from Eva, which entails a bit of Tower busywork and collecting a Manifested Page from a Haunted Sector. Once you do that and deliver the first of your Manifested Pages to restore a chapter of Tales of the Forgotten Vol. 4, you can complete the first event challenge, Cryptozoologist. With that complete, the remaining event challenges will open up, including several Bookworm ones that involve restoring additional chapters.
Here’s every Festival of the Lost 2024 objective:
- Cryptozoologist – Use Manifested Pages to restore a chapter in the Tales of the Forgotten Vol. 4 (1)
- Bookworm I – Use Manifested Pages to restore chapters in the Tales of the Forgotten Vol. 4 (7)
- Bookworm II – Use Manifested Pages to restore chapters in the Tales of the Forgotten Vol. 4 (14)
- Bookworm III – Use Manifested Pages to restore chapters in the Tales of the Forgotten Vol. 4 (22)
- Heads Will Roll – Defeated Headless Ones in Haunted Sectors. (100)
- Horrific Haunts – Complete an Expert Haunted Sector. (1)
- Candy Corner – Earn candy from activities.
- Mystery Meet – Purchase Mystery Grab Bags from Eva.
- Third Shot’s a Charm – Defeat targets with pulse rifles. Defeating Guardians in Crucible or Gambit provides additional progress.
- Blunder-Boos – Defeat targets with shotguns. Defeating Guardians in Crucible or Gambit provides additional progress.
- Pumpkin Peltin’ – Defeat targets with grenade launchers. Defeating Guardians in Crucible or Gambit provides additional progress.
- Occult Ritual – Complete ritual activities, including strikes, Crucible matches, and Gambit matches.
- Hocus Focusing – Focus an Eerie Engram. These Engrams drop from Haunted Sectors and can be focused in the Tower Courtyard with Eva Levante. (1)
- Masked Bandit – Complete Crucible or Gambit matches while wearing a festival mask.
- Happy Haunting Ground – Complete Haunted Sectors. Higher difficulty Haunted Sectors grant additional progress. (18)
- Ghost Writer – Complete event challenges during the Festival of the Lost. Progress resets at the end of the event.
This is largely straightforward stuff and mainly involves playing the game normally (while wearing a mask, which Eva will provide you) or taking part in the event-specific Haunted Sector activity.
To expedite this process, be sure to pay attention to your objectives: Equip yourself with a pulse rifle, shotgun, and grenade launcher, plus a mask, and you’ll be able to chip away at multiple objectives at a time. Expert Haunted Sectors no longer have matchmaking available, but if you don’t have two partners to attempt them with, Fireteam Finder will let you search for fellow players.
Candy can be earned by killing enemies and completing many of the challenges above, so that should come passively. You can then use it to purchase a Mystery Grab Bag from Eva for 650 candy to complete the Mystery Meet challenge.
Ghost Writer event challenge key rewards
Each event challenge will earn you an event ticket (used to unlock rewards if you unlock the premium event card) and other fairly standard rewards–things like glimmer, Ascendant Shards, Enhancements Cores, and so on. There are some more notable rewards, though, which we call out below:
- Bookworm II – Sugarcoated shader
- Bookworm III – Nightlight sparrow
- Heads Will Roll – Cursed Thrall mask
- Candy Corner – Finalized Ghost shell
- Blunder-Boos – Arcane Embrace (a new Heavy Burst Arc shotgun)
- Occult Ritual – Runner mask
- Hocus Focusing – Tower Staff mask
- Happy Haunting Ground – Nezarec mask, Bungie reward
- Ghost Writer – Superblack
Although it’s not strictly a reward from the event challenges, be aware that you can purchase an Exotic class item from Eva in exchange for an Eerie Engram and 2,500 candy. That’s no small amount, but remember that this lets you bypass the requirement to complete Dual Destiny and get an Exotic class item. You’ll then be able to earn them from Overthrow chests, as well as by buying them from Xur when he has them available.
By all indications, Superblack will be locked away again once Festival of the Lost ends, so if you have any interest in the all-black look it provides, you’ll likely want to invest the time to get it while you can. There’s no telling when it will return.
